Artist's Description
This is a Semipalmated Sandpiper. These bird breed up in northern Canada and are a common migrant in eastern and central Canada and United States.
This photograph was taken at Dekorte Park which is located in New Jersey by New York City. Dekorte Park has a series of trails that you can walk out on and observe the birds on the water. I walked out and sat down at the edge of the trail and waited for a group of Sandpipers to work their way over to where I was. As they worked their way over to where I was, I was taking pictures of them feeding and chasing each other, and this was one of the photos taken, In the picture, the two spurts of water are worms in the sand blowing water out of their holes. These worms are what the sandpipers eat.
About James Petersen
I am James Petersen and I have been birdwatching for over 5 years. I have used my vast experience of birdwatching to transition to photographing birds in their natural habitat and trying to show off each birds personalities. Aside from photographing birds, I also photograph nature and wild animals but have a focus on birds. All the animals and birds that I photograph are wild. Any animal I photograph I try to put as little stress on the animal as possible, if I sense or see that the animal knows that I am there and is not pleased by my presence than I leave the area. Thank you for stopping by, if you like what you see I have a personal website that can be found here : http://james-petersen.artistwebsites.com/. Thank you and have a...
