Artist's Description

This is a Semipalmated Plover. This bird breeds up in in Northern Canada, but is a common migrant in fall and spring across much of the United States and Canada.

This picture was taken at Sandy Hook NWR, in New Jersey. I was out on the beach and came across this tidal pool where alot of these plovers and some Piping Plovers were foraging for food. I sat down and waited around 45 mins. In that time, this plover worked its way over to by where I was and started feeding. I snapped this picture as it was walking near me and than continued to watch the bird until he was far enough away, so that when I left, I wouldn't disturb the bird. During the whole period, the bird never looked scared, or noticed I was there.

About James Petersen

James Petersen

I am James Petersen and I have been birdwatching for over 5 years. I have used my vast experience of birdwatching to transition to photographing birds in their natural habitat and trying to show off each birds personalities. Aside from photographing birds, I also photograph nature and wild animals but have a focus on birds. All the animals and birds that I photograph are wild. Any animal I photograph I try to put as little stress on the animal as possible, if I sense or see that the animal knows that I am there and is not pleased by my presence than I leave the area. Thank you for stopping by, if you like what you see I have a personal website that can be found here : http://james-petersen.artistwebsites.com/. Thank you and have a...
